Passage: Isaiah 53:10-13 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: Easter at Gospel Grace

Length: 58 mins 51 secs Plays: 3057

Speaker: Lukus Counterman - Isaiah 53 is all about Jesus.  It lays out a description of his death 700 years before he was born.  It is a prophecy that explains the theological purpose of the Messiah's cross.  This chapter speaks of God's sovereign plan of redemption (Isaiah 53:10).  It was not a fluke, an accident, or an unfortunate consequence of betrayal.  It was the definite plan and purpose of God, sovereignly determined before the foundation of the world (Acts 2:23).  Not only that, but Isaiah 53 highlights the doctrine of substitutionary atonement (Isaiah 53:4-5, 9).  Jesus death was not simply an example.  It was not part of redemption.  It was the full ransom price.  It was the total payment for our iniquities, our transgressions, our sins.  It was the sufficient atonement for all who believe.  And that brings us to the final theological emphasis of Isaiah 53.  We are saved or justified by faith alone (Isaiah 53:11).  We are not made righteous by a combination of faith in Christ and what we can do.  Our works have no merit.  God doesn't deal in the currency of our good deeds.  Simply read (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5).  By the work of Jesus many are made righteous through faith in Him.  May the Lord challenge and encourage our hearts this Easter.
