When Rights Become Wrong

Passage: 1 Corinthians 8:1-13 Speaker: Pastor Lukus Counterman Series: 1 Corinthians - Pursue Love

Length: 56 mins 40 secs Plays: 297

Speaker: Lukus Counterman - Many of us prefer issues in life that can be resolved with black and white simplicity. We want to know if something is right or wrong. Should it be done or not? We just want straight forward answers. But not all of life’s questions can be navigated so simply. Such was the case in Corinth when it came to the exercise of Christian liberties. Can you eat meat offered to idols or not? Is it right or wrong? In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul helps us understand that sometimes rights can become wrong if they lack Christlike love. Now, while the consumption of idolatrous meat may not be a questionable practice in our culture, there are timeless truths we can learn from this text. May the Lord teach us how to love believers with different convictions when it comes to debatable issues. May love eclipse our Christian liberties in such a way that we end up edifying others for the glory of God.
