Speaker: Will Galkin - Every generation has their own manifestations of sin and brokenness. In Matthew 1 we discover the broken lineage of Jesus. Yet, through a genealogy that is full of adultery, murder, and other sins, God's faithfulness is revealed. For 400 years the people of God did not receive any fresh revelation. Then, like a start shining out of the darkest night, Jesus is announced as the Savior of the World. Based on these observations we will see that God is His faithfulness keeps His promises, triumphs over our discouraging past, and provides for our deepest need.

Speaker: Will Galkin - For the next three weeks we would like to highlight three words that describe this assembly. They are Gospel, Grace, and Church. This morning we will be looking at the Gospel. The Gospel can be defined as Good News. Biblically, we know that all of mankind has broken God’s law and deserves His Just Judgment. Yet, the Good News is that Jesus Christ the eternal Son of God came to this World to take that judgment and be our Savior. Jesus Christ lived perfectly and fulfilled all righteousness. Yet, He died for sinners on the cross was buried and rose again from the dead. Through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice mankind is now able to enter in to a relationship with God. Though Christ we are able to have a life of faith.

Speaker: Will Galkin - The book of Hebrews cab be read in about 45 minutes. Throughout the book, the reader encounters the tension of being exhorted to persevere in faith and be encouraged that God will faithfully preserve those that are His. The focus of the Christian's faith must be Jesus Christ. The author of Hebrews reminds the reader that Jesus is better. He is better than the angles, Moses, and the high priestly system. He is the object and finisher of our faith. Hebrews chapter 11 showcases broken snits of old who demonstrate what a life of faith looks like. Last week we walked through the lives of Able, Enoch, and Noah. This week we begin a section that focuses on the Patriarchs specifically Abraham. These examples are given to Christians as a reminder to press on. But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.

Speaker: Will Galkin - After finishing the upper room discourse Jesus took His true disciples to place of refuge. Across the Valley of Kidron there was a garden that was within the jurisdiction of Jerusalem that Jesus would often retreat to. That night He and the disciples were betrayed. Roman soldiers and Jewish leaders were shown the way by Judas the traitor. The disciples’ world began to fall around them. All of their expectations of what they thought they knew about Jesus were in doubt. Yet, through it all Jesus was demonstrating that He was trustworthy and in control. Jesus is sovereign in the midst of betrayal, failures and weaknesses and suffering.

Speaker: Will Galkin - The word “advent” simply means “the appearance of a notable person.” In the Christian calendar, it refers to the arrival of Christ. His First Advent is a reference to His incarnation and Christmas. His Second Advent is a reference to when He comes again. So, we are people who reside between Advents. We look both ways. As we look back we celebrate the birth of Jesus and as we look forward we long for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. We, like the disciples of Mark 13, find ourselves asking the same questions. How long, Jesus, until you come back? How will we know when you will come for us? Yet, while no one knows the exact day or hour of His return. We find ourselves realizing that our only hope is His return. Through the words of Christ, we will see that His second coming will be obvious, comforting and motivating.
