Speaker: Lukus Counterman - We live in a world where getting the upper hand is a virtue. We live in a culture where “survival of the fittest” isn’t just a Darwinian theory, it’s a way of life. We live in a dog-eat-dog society where the weak are trampled under foot, and only the aggressive, assertive, and oppressive make it to the finish line. So how are God’s people supposed to live in an environment that prizes getting ahead at the expense and detriment of others? Well, what we learn in Deuteronomy 24 is that God’s people are supposed to be countercultural. They are supposed to care about the weak, needy, and vulnerable. And the reason why, is because when we were oppressed, destitute, and without hope, God cared for us. He graciously redeemed us. So, may his grace transform us into people who really care about others.
