Speaker: Jon Kopp - As we enter the last week of 2020 and look ahead to the unknowns of the next few months, what do we need to remember more than anything else? From Romans 8:35-39, the Apostle Paul would say, "the love of God." God is love, and that means that His love and all of His other attributes work in harmony. His love and His omniscience and omnipresence and omnipotence all come together in an unstoppable purpose to do His people good. (See also Romans 5:3-5, 8:28-30) In today's text, Paul asks a sweeping question and then answers it with unequivocal logic: "Can anything separate us from the love of God?" No! God is love, and that love is inseparable, unshakable, and unending for those who are in Christ Jesus. C.H. Spurgeon reminded us of this when he preached, "Before [any] of creation had struggled from nothingness, God, even our God, had set his heart upon all his children. Since that time, has he once swerved, has he once turned aside, once changed? No; you who have tasted of his love and know his grace, will bear me witness, that He has been a certain friend in uncertain circumstances. You have often left him; has he ever left you? You have had many trials and troubles; has he ever deserted you? Has he ever turned away his heart, and shut up his bowels of compassion? No, children of God, it is your solemn duty to say “No,” and bear witness to his faithfulness." As we consider the day ahead, may we find that the steadfast love of the Lord holds us up. (Psalm 94:17-19)
