Speaker: Lukus Counterman - So many things have changed over these past few months. Our habits and rhythms feel upside down and out of kilter. The fact is, COVID-19 has impacted work, family, and even church. When the pandemic first hit, many tried the novelty of online services and zoom community for their spiritual nourishment. But these days, most people are zoomed out and tired of virtual connects. I wonder if the absence of assembling, or the discouraging form church has taken recently with masks and social distancing, has caused some people to slip away altogether. Perhaps coming to an in-person service has been difficult or underwhelming. Maybe watching from home has become boring and disconnected. Perhaps you prefer additional or fewer safety precautions. Admittedly, things aren’t what they once were, but should we just give up? For some there is necessary restraint and cautious wisdom guiding their steps. But for others their choices are more marked by inconsistency, selfishness, or fear than they are by faith and wisdom. This Sunday, I want to encourage you with a message about the church. I want to help you treasure the assembled body once again. From the scriptures we’ll seek to answer this question: “Why do we need the church in the midst of COVID-19?” I hope you’ll join us in-person or online as we seek to rekindle our love and passion for Christ’s body, the church.
