Speaker: Lukus Counterman - Life in the midst of a pandemic isn’t easy. Businesses are struggling, schedules are overturned, finances are squeezed, and people are afraid. Staying home and staying safe sounds good at first, but it gets old. We want to hang out with friends, celebrate birthdays, have a graduation, or go on a vacation. But it seems like life is on hold. Although we are joined together in a state of suffering, perhaps you’ve wondered if anyone really understands. Maybe you’ve questioned if anyone really cares what you’re going through. My friends, in the midst of our pain we need to climb up the hill to Calvary and see the Man of Sorrows. In the midst of our loss we need to see the Suffering Servant and remember that he knows and cares. It’s only from the vantage point of Calvary that our tragedies truly come into focus. You see, the cross was God’s answer to suffering. A once-for-all Sufferer laid aside his glory so that we could be clothed in it. He was bound, and stapled to a cross so that we could be set free. He was cast out so that we could boldly approach the throne of grace. So, may we “rejoice insofar as we share Christ’s sufferings, that we may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed” (1 Pet. 4:13).
